With the expansion, Progress Rail plans to add around 10 positions at the facility over the next few weeks.
With the addition of a new rail spur, Progress Rail anticipates the Galesburg yard will process seven to eight railcars per day. The facility will be able to ship loads of prepared scrap and miscellaneous railcar parts by rail, a more environmentally-friendly solution compared to alternative methods. Shipments made by rail offer higher fuel efficiency, while emitting fewer emissions than shipments made by truck.
To accommodate the new services, Progress Rail will move its current Galesburg retail scrap operations to a nearby location. With this expansion, the company will increase its volume, enhancing Progress Rail's ability to serve its railroad and steel mill customers, while expanding its Galesburg facility.
