Written by jrood

The Sacramento, Calif., Regional Transit District re-opened the 12th and I light rail station on schedule on September 7, 2010. RT temporarily closed the 12th and I light rail station in downtown Sacramento on August 2 to perform station improvements as part of the Alkali Flat/La Valentina and 12th & I Light Rail Station Improvement Project.

During construction, light
rail trains operated through the 12th and I light rail station, but passengers
were not able to board and/or exit.

This is the second of a
two-station project improvement grant that is funded through the Sacramento
Area Council of Governments Community Design Program, which is administered by
the California Transportation Commission and the California Department of
Transportation. Work was completed at the Alkali Flat/La Valentina light rail
station in August 2009.

The improvements for the
12th & I light rail station include:

• New raised boarding
platform and removal of existing vertical lift.

• Shelters with high output
lighting on raised boarding platforms.

• New seating and trash
receptacle.

• Improved irrigation.

• Miscellaneous plant and
tree replacements.

• Repainting.

• General infrastructure
improvements.
