Sounder north commuter rail service interrupted by mudslides

Written by jrood

All Sounder north commuter rail trains between Seattle and Everett, Wash., will end at Mukilteo due to a mudslide north of Mukilteo. The Sounder north line normally serves stations in Edmonds, Mukilteo and Everett. Sounder will operate as normal from Seattle to Edmonds and Mukilteo.

Everett-bound riders can
take ST Express Route 510 from Seattle to Everett.

Sounder operates on railway
owned and maintained by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway. The railway
requires a 48-hour waiting period after mudslides before resuming normal
passenger service to ensure safe operating conditions.

Also in the area, starting
on the evening of March 25, between 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., Sound Transit’s
contractor will be cutting the asphalt and concrete across Montlake Blvd to
prepare for the installation of the electrical ductbank under Montlake Blvd.
that will provide power to the UW Station construction site and ultimately the
University of Washington Station.

The following 2 weeks,
between Monday, March 29 and Friday, April 9, the contractor will start the
excavation and ductbank construction across Montlake Blvd. All of the work is
scheduled at night to minimize impact to automotive traffic. It will be
necessary to restrict traffic to one lane in either direction on Montlake Blvd.

University Link is the
3.15-mile extension of light rail from downtown Seattle to the University of
Washington. U-Link includes twin-bore tunnels and two stations, one at Capitol
Hill (Broadway and East John Street) and the other on the University of
Washington campus at Husky Stadium.
