Tollway lanes shifting for EJ&E bridge

Written by jrood

Work on the EJ&E railway bridge over Interstate 88 in northeastern Illinois, which starts Sept. 17, will result in a temporary shifting of lanes on the tollway, the Geneva, Ill., Sun reports.

The bridge over I-88 is
between Eola Road and Route 59. Work on the 52-year-old railroad bridge will
include repairs to the drainage system, repairs to the bridge beams and pier
bearings, structural steel fabrication and repairs and bridge painting. This
work is scheduled to be complete by the end of the year.

Tollway officials said
the project will begin by restriping the pavement on I-88 about 1,500 feet on
either side of the bridge for a traffic shift that will create a work zone in
both directions.

Three lanes of traffic
will remain open during daytime hours, tollway officials said, but some
overnight lane closures are required.
