Track maintenance to affect Metro’s Red, Orange and Green lines

Written by jrood

Track maintenance on the Red, Orange and Green lines in the Washington, D.C., area over the weekend of August 29-30 will cause inbound and outbound trains to take turns sharing one track. Customers should add at least 30 minutes of time to their trips.

Red Line Track Maintenance

Metrorail customers traveling between the Grosvenor-Strathmore and Friendship Heights Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes of travel time to their trips because Metro will make tunnel repairs and replace rail and rail fasteners that stabilize the tracks.

On Saturday, August 29,
and Sunday, August 30, from 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., every other Red Line train
traveling towards the Shady Grove Metrorail station will terminate at the
Friendship Heights Metrorail station and return to the Glenmont Metrorail
station. Throughout the weekend, all Red Line trains will operate every 20
minutes between the Shady Grove and Medical Center Metrorail stations.

Metrorail customers
traveling between the East Falls Church and Ballston-MU Metrorail stations
should add at least 30 minutes of travel time to their trips because Metro will
replace crossties. Trains will share one track between these locations from 10 p.m.,
Friday, August 28, to closing (midnight) on Sunday, August 30.

Metrorail Green Line customers
traveling between the Georgia Ave-Petworth and Fort Totten Metrorail stations
should add 20 minutes of travel time to their trips because of rail
replacement. Trains will share one track between these locations from 8 p.m.,
Friday, August 28, to 6 p.m., on Sunday, August 30. Due to track maintenance on
the Green Line between Georgia Ave-Petworth and Fort Totten, all Yellow Line
trains will operate between the Huntington and Mt. Vernon Sq-7th St Convention
Center Metrorail stations from 8 p.m., Friday, August 28, to closing (midnight)
on Sunday, August 30.
