Union Pacific investing about $19 million to lines in three states

Union Pacific will improve Missouri's transportation infrastructure by investing more than $10 million on the rail line that runs from near Washington, Mo., to Pacific, Mo. Work on the nearly 22-mile stretch of railroad track began July 1 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of July.   The project includes removing and installing the rail on one of the two tracks in the area.

Also, Union Pacific is
investing nearly $9 million to improve the rail line that runs from Hiawatha,
Kan., to Auburn, Neb. Work on the nearly 50-mile stretch of railroad track
began July 1 and is scheduled to be completed by mid August. 

The project includes removing
and installing more than 57,000 ties, spreading 32,700 tons of rock ballast and
replacing 80 grade crossing surfaces. Crews are also replacing more than three
miles of rail in various curves between Kansas City, Kan., and Union, Neb.  The curve rail project began June 11
and is scheduled to be completed by mid July.
