Union Pacific has published its 2009 Sustainability and Citizenship Report, highlighting the company's commitment to protecting the environment, enhancing its position as an employer of choice, being a valuable member of the more than 7,000 communities in which it operates and diligently working on behalf of shareholders, employees and customers to be among the best-governed companies in America.

"Union Pacific has a legacy
of running a safe, responsible and profitable railroad," said Robert W. Turner,
senior vice president – Corporate Relations. "Our success is attributed to the
hard work and dedication of our employees, partnerships with communities, and a
focus on serving customer needs. It is with these three groups that we believe
the future success of Union Pacific lies. We will continue our strong
commitment to providing the best workplace, keeping our trains and structures
safe, partnering with communities, and offering the best service to customers
today and into the future."

The railroad’s 2009
Sustainability and Citizenship Report includes:

         Highlights in the
areas of environment, society and governance and ethics;

         Sustainability and
citizenship goals;

         Achievements in
reducing the company’s environmental footprint;

In formulating its
