Union Pacific to increase train speed in Rosenberg, Texas

Written by jrood

Drivers will spend less time waiting for trains to pass as Union Pacific increases the speed of its trains on the rail line that parallels Loop 529 in Rosenberg, Texas. The train speed limit will increase from 10 miles per hour to 40 mph on nearly three miles of track that crosses Junker and Scott Roads.

The train speed increase began
February 15 and will continue in five mile-per-hour increments each subsequent
week. Trains will begin traveling at 40 mph by March 29. Recently completed
track improvements will permit the higher speeds in Rosenberg. Crews installed
new rail and approximately 4,000 ties in the spring of last year.

Union Pacific plans to
spend approximately $2.5 billion in 2010 to support America’s current and
future freight transportation needs and enhance the safety and efficiency of
the railroad’s 32,000-mile network.
