UP making improvements to Illinois, Missouri lines

Union Pacific is investing more than $7 million to improve the rail line that runs from East Clinton, Ill., to near Dixon, Ill.  Work on the 46-mile stretch of railroad track began June 7 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of July. The project includes removing and installing more than 50,000 ties, spreading 16,700 tons of rock ballast to reinforce the roadbed and replacing 41 grade crossing surfaces.

Also, UP is making a $1.8-million
investment to improve the rail line that runs from Waverly, Mo., to Marshall,
Mo. Work on the 20-mile stretch of railroad track began June 13 and is
scheduled to be completed by mid July. The project includes removing and
installing more than 10,000 ties, spreading 9,700 tons of rock ballast to
reinforce the roadbed and replacing 24 grade crossing surfaces.
