VTA launches new Web page for upcoming service changes

To provide the latest information about upcoming service modifications, California's Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority launched a brand new Web page. The goal is to make it easy for VTA customers to view the new bus and light rail schedules with one click of a mouse. The detailed and visual information about service changes can be found on www.vta.org/servicereductions. The new web page includes a system map and a light rail transit map, specific route changes, and a Frequently Asked Questions link. VTA's service reduction will be in effect beginning Monday, January 11, 2010.

"We continue to use
the latest technology to inform our customers of bus and light rail
changes," said Michael T. Burns VTA General Manager. "We want to
ensure that VTA customers can access up-to-date information with ease."

In October, VTA Board of
Directors authorized a revised service reduction plan to fill a budget shortfall
due to the elimination of the state transit fund and the decline in sales tax
revenue. The Board adopted a revised service reduction plan that incorporated
public comments and input from VTA Advisory Committees. Many other transit
agencies in the region are facing similar service cuts. VTA’s revised service
reduction plan consists of, on average, an eight percent reduction in bus
service and a 6.5 percent reduction in light rail service.
