VW gets the green light for Tenn. rail terminal

Written by jrood

Tennessee approved $10.7 million in state funds to build an outbound rail terminal at Volkswagen's Chattanooga auto assembly plant. The city's Industrial Development Board also gave approval to a contract for Thomas Brother Construction Co. of Chattanooga to do the work. The terminal would be served by CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern and would carry 80 percent of the finished vehicles leaving the VW facility. VW's $1 billion auto plant will start production in 2011 and produce 150,000 vehicles a year.
