Weekend track maintenance on Metro Red, Blue lines

Written by jrood

Track maintenance on the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Red and Blue lines Dec. 18-20 will cause inbound and outbound trains to take turns sharing one track. Customers should add 30 minutes to their trips.

Metrorail customers traveling between the Fort Totten and Silver Spring Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes to their travel time because Metro will be making track circuit upgrades at the Takoma Metrorail station. Trains will share one track between these locations the entire weekend from 9:30 p.m. Dec. 18, to closing (midnight) on Dec. 20.

Metrorail customers
traveling between the Braddock Road and Van Dorn Street (Blue Line) Metrorail
stations should add at least 30 minutes of travel time for their trips because
Metro will be trimming leaves and weeds along the rail tracks. Trains will
share one track between these locations from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Dec. 19, and
from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 20.

All Yellow and Blue Line trains will operate
to the Huntington Metrorail station during these times. Metro will operate a
special Blue Line shuttle train between the Franconia-Springfield and King
Street Metrorail stations. At King Street, customers will be able to catch a
Blue or Yellow Line train to the Largo Town Center or Fort Totten Metrorail
stations.
