W.Va. 100 retaining wall being reinforced

Written by jrood

Regional Transportation District Norfolk Southern is reinforcing a retaining wall along W.Va. 100 with steel I-beams and concrete, the Morgantown, W. Va., Dominion Post reports.

Granville Police Chief
Ron Snyder and Mayor Patty Lewis said town officials weren’t notified of the
work, which began about two weeks ago. But it hasn’t created any major problems.

"Traffic has moved
OK," Snyder said. "When the [Longview] power plant lets out, it gets
a little backed up, but there haven’t been any complaints yet."

A supervisor for Norfolk
Southern did not return calls to The Dominion Post in time for this report, and
a spokesman was unable to provide information about the project by press time.

Snyder said railroad ties
were replaced with a retaining wall several years ago to keep an embankment
along W.Va. 100 from sliding onto the road. He said sections of the retaining
wall have since been filled with concrete and steel I-beams, and construction
workers were filling in the remaining areas July 13.
