All Aboard Florida and the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), in coordination with the Palm Beach Metropolitan Planning Organization, has secured funding for a continuous quiet zone between the city of Hallandale Beach and downtown West Palm Beach along the Florida East Coast Railway (FEC).

All Aboard Florida is spending $60-million on a series of safety improvements at crossings on the Florida East Coast Railway. Transportation planners in Palm Beach and Broward counties have set aside $10.8 million to cover additional safety upgrades that are also needed for the quiet zone and Palm Beach County has pledged $6.6 million to help cover the cost of those improvements.

On April 10, officials from the Broward and Palm Beach MPOs traveled to Washington, D.C., to meet with officials from the U.S. Department of Transportation concerning federal grant funding through the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) program to assist with railroad safety infrastructure costs to potentially qualify as Quiet Zones.
