Caltrain will begin service for passengers at its newly grade-separated San Bruno Station April 1.

Since 2010, Caltrain customers have been using a temporary boarding platform on Huntington Avenue near Sylvan Avenue. March 31 will be the last day of service at that site, with the new station opening up a half-mile to the north at 833 San Mateo Ave.

The $155-million grade-separation project elevated Caltrain tracks at three separate crossings in San Bruno. The grade-separated crossings improve safety conditions for both pedestrians and motorists in San Bruno, while also easing traffic congestion to and from Highway 101. The San Mateo County Transportation Authority provided $92.5 million for the safety-improvement project, with the remaining funding coming from state and federal sources.

There will be 201 parking spaces and a “kiss-and-ride” lot at the station along with a few amenities, such as an elevator accessing the northbound platform, which will be added after the April 1 debut of the new site.
