Crosstie replacement begins along COASTER route

Written by Jenifer Nunez, assistant editor

North County Transit District (NCTD) in San Diego, Calif., began a $2 million crosstie replacement project on the coastal rail corridor used for passenger rail service October 7. The project is expected to be completed by November 24.

Transit America Services Inc. received the prime contract, with Herzog Railroad Services, Inc., as a subcontractor.

Approximately 9,800 crossties from the San Diego County line to Sea World Drive in San Diego will be replaced through this project. NCTD’s crosstie replacement will occur at night to avoid interruption of regular COASTER service. This work will not impact train schedules.
