Denver RTD receives award for advancing design-build awareness

The Design-Build Institute of America recognized the Denver Regional Transportation District with its 2012 DBIA Transportation Owner of the Year Award in the category of transit. The award was presented Thursday, April 26, during the 2012 Design-Build in Transportation Conference in Phoenix.

DBIA acknowledged RTD’s significant contributions in advancing design-build awareness and understanding. Of RTD’s FasTracks transit expansion program, about 70 percent is being implemented through design-build, including the I-225 Light Rail project, Eagle P3 project and the Denver Union Station redevelopment. Richard Clarke, RTD assistant general manager of capital programs, accepted the award on behalf of the agency.

“We are honored to be acknowledged for our approach to building out RTD’s FasTracks system,” said Clarke. “RTD uses this method to ensure that projects are delivered on time and on budget.”

“RTD and the Colorado Department of Transportation completed the T-REX project under budget and 22 months ahead of the original schedule,” said RTD General Manager Phil Washington. “Because of the high level of benefit to both the public and our agency, much of FasTracks is being built through design-build.”
