Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) has signed a contract with a joint venture for the construction of the Regional Connector, as well as awarded a design contract for a Metrolink double track project.

The $918 million-contract for the Regional Connectors was signed between LACMTA and a joint venture of Skanska and Traylor Brothers, Inc. The Regional Connector project consists of the design and construction of a 1.86-mile (3-kilometer) double track light-rail transit subway in downtown Los Angeles with three new stations. Construction work will start immediately and is expected to be completed in October 2020.

J.L. Patterson & Associates, Inc. (JLP), was awarded a $6.5-million contract for finalizing the design of a double track project from Raymer to Bernson along the Ventura County Line of Metrolink.

The Raymer to Bernson Double Track Project is located on the LACMTA-owned right-of-way along the Ventura subdivision and it is part of the Los Angeles – San Diego – San Luis Obispo (LOSSAN) corridor. JLP will design 6.4 miles of second main line track to eliminate the current single track bottleneck and ultimately improve travel times, operational reliability and station safety. Among other enhancements being made are the construction of a second platform and pedestrian underpass at the Northridge Station, nine grade crossings to align with current Metrolink design standards and the replacement of two railroad bridge structures. Once complete, this corridor will feature full double track from Burbank to Chatsworth.
