The rehabilitation of Metro-North Railroad Bridges over Sound Beach Ave. and Tomac Ave. in Old Greenwich started on May 4.

The work entails the complete replacement of both bridge superstructures, including abutment modifications. The two existing commuter parking lots located at the Old Greenwich Railroad Station – one city of Greenwich parking lot and one Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) parking lot will also be expanded. Construction of a retaining wall to facilitate the parking lot expansion, drainage systems upgrades, modifications and improvements to the commuter railroad station platforms and installation of new improved access stairways are included in the project.

The station platforms will be extended from the existing six-car length to accommodate 10-car passenger loading. Upgrades to the platforms include new energy-efficient lighting, three enclosed shelters, 27 four-person benches, six trash/recycling receptacles and new concrete staircases and railings.

Manafort Brother’s Inc., was awarded the construction contract, worth $14.8 million and work is scheduled to be completed by May 15, 2018.
