The 27-mile TEX Rail commuter rail project kicked off construction activities with a trio of groundbreaking ceremonies in Fort Worth, Grapevine and North Richland Hills, Texas on Aug. 24.

The Forth Worth Transportation Authority (FWTA) led rail project will run from downtown Forth Worth to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). The line will begin in downtown Fort Worth at the existing T&P Station, which is currently served by the Trinity Railway Express commuter service, and travels through the ITC station, also in downtown Fort Worth, continuing across northeast Tarrant County to the cities of North Richland Hills and Grapevine and into DFW, Terminal B.

The terminus point at DFW, Terminal B will be adjacent to a Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Rail Station which will also serve the airport on the east side.

The Federal Transit Administration awarded a Letter of No Prejudice to the FWTA for TEX Rail in June allowing construction activities to commence. Service is expected to begin in 2018 and officials anticipate the line serving more than 8,000 daily riders during the first year and expect more than 14,000 daily riders by 2035.
