The California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) awarded a $1.23-billion contract to construct a 60-plus mile portion of high-speed rail between Los Angeles and San Francisco to the joint venture team of Dragados USA and Flatiron.

The project runs through California’s Central Valley and includes construction of at-grade and aerial sections of high-speed train infrastructure, grade separation structure, relocation of 5.5 miles of existing tracks, waterway and wildlife crossings, as well as roadway reconstructions, utility relocations and other related improvements.

The design phase of the project will take approximately 18 months, with construction starting in late-2016. The project is estimated to be completed in approximately 48 months.
