Four companies vying for Oklahoma’s Sooner Sub rail line

The Sooner Subdivision rail line between Del City and Sapulpa, Okla., garnered bids from four companies interested in purchasing the line.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) has since turned the proposals over to an evaluation committee, which will have 90 days from January 31, 2014, to make a recommendation to ODOT.

The Sooner Subdivision rail line was one of the several rail corridors facing abandonment in the late 90s and ODOT acquired it at salvage value with the intent of preservation for future use.

In 2012, several private rail companies had shown interest in the line, prompting ODOT to begin exploring the possible sale of the Sooner Subdivision and began accepting proposals in November 2013.
