METRORail celebrated Jan. 9 the first passenger rail ride across its recently completed Harrisburg Overpass.

As of Jan. 11, Green Line riders can use the overpass to connect to the Magnolia Park Transit Center, and METRORail is offering free rides leading up to a community celebration scheduled for Jan. 22.

“We are really excited to offer our customers such a wonderful opportunity to ride and come explore all the East End has to offer,” said METRO Board Chair Carrin Patman.

Local officials and community leaders joined Patman, METRO board members, METRO President and CEO Tom Lambert and staff for the ribbon cutting and inaugural ride over the Harrisburg Bridge.

“When the train is traveling west, you get a wonderful view of downtown Houston and a visual reminder of how this bridge connects one of our most historic communities to downtown,” Lambert said.

The Green Line now serves nine stations, connecting downtown Houston to the Magnolia Park Transit Center.
