GrandLinq, a public-private partnership (PPP) in which AECOM Technology Corporation participates, has been awarded a contract by the Region of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada.

The GrandLinq PPP will design, build, finance, operate and maintain a new at-grade light-rail transit system between the cities of Waterloo and Kitchener. The contract is expected to be worth approximately US$23 million to AECOM.

As the PPP’s design lead, AECOM is responsible for the project’s detailed design, including track, civil, utilities, architecture, structural, landscape, systems and environmental services. Known as ION, the LRT system consists of 11 miles of track, 19 stops, 13 traction power stations and a new operations and maintenance facility to house and service the ION fleet. A focal point of the project will be the construction of a major grade separation for a future intermodal transit facility. Other notable scope elements include two new rail structures and public infrastructure works.

“We are proud that AECOM will help advance the region’s transit system by providing integrated design management, as well as environmental and community outreach services,” said Michael Burke, AECOM president and chief executive officer. “We look forward to leveraging AECOM’s expertise, working with our partners to deliver a convenient and environmentally-friendly transportation option to residents.”
