Detroit City Council gave unanimous approval of construction and operating agreements, putting construction of the M-1 Rail 3.3-mile streetcar project in motion this July.

This rail system will serve Detroit’s largest job centers and most visited destinations. It is expected to ignite new economic development and job creation and provide a foundation for improved and expanded public transit throughout the region.

The M-1 Rail project is a modern streetcar project to be constructed along Woodward Avenue from Larned Street in the Central Business District to Grand Boulevard in the New Center area in the city of Detroit.

There are 11 proposed stops along the new transit line, which were strategically selected to connect with Detroit Department of Transportation and SMART bus routes, the Detroit People Mover, Megabus and Amtrak.
