The New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority awarded a contract for the station finishes, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, ancillary buildings and entrances for the future Second Avenue Subway 72nd Street Station to Judlau Contracting Inc.

The contract, valued at $258,353,000, is the ninth of 10 contracts to be awarded for Phase 1. The final contract for Phase 1 of the Second Avenue Subway will be the 86th Street Station Systems and Finishes, which is scheduled for a bid opening in mid-March.

Entrances for the station will be located on the southeast corner of 69th Street and the northwest corner of 72nd Street and Second Avenue, as well as a handicapped-accessible entrance on the southeast corner of 72nd Street and Second Avenue.

The $4.45-billion project to extend the Q Line along Second Avenue is the largest expansion of the subway system in generations. The subway line will have new stations at 72nd Street, 86th Street and 96th Street and is expected to open for service in December 2016.
