The Federal Transit Administration on Aug. 20 signed the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the proposed 17-mile Durham-Orange Light Rail Transit (D-O LRT) Project, which would run from Chapel Hill to Durham, N.C.

GoTriangle says it is hopeful that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will publish the Notice of Availability in the Federal Register on August 28, thus beginning the formal public comment and review period. GoTriangle anticipates that the EPA will close the public review and comment period on October 12, 2015.

D-O LRT is estimated to take 42 minutes from end to end and will run every 10 minutes during peak times and every 20 minutes during off-peak times. It is estimated to cost $1.8 billion.
