Denver RTD to pursue competitive bidding process for I-225 light-rail

The Denver, Colo., Regional Transportation District will be advertising a Request for Proposals, after determining that an unsolicited proposal for the I-225 Light Rail Project has merit.

RTD staff has evaluated the unsolicited proposal submitted by Kiewit Infrastructure Company on March 8 consistent with the agency’s Unsolicited Proposals Policy and has found it worthy of moving forward to a competitive procurement process. RTD will prepare an RFP and distribute it in spring 2012. Kiewit and any other interested firms would then have the opportunity to submit a detailed proposal.

Kiewit led the design-build construction team on the Transportation Expansion (T-REX) project, a joint highway/light-rail project of RTD and the Colorado Department of Transportation. Kiewit is also currently constructing the transit improvements at Denver Union Station, which are more than 50 percent complete.

Initial construction work for the first segment of the I-225 line from Parker Road to Lliff will begin soon under contract through a partnership with CDOT as the agency constructs highway improvements in that area.
