The Regional Transportation District (RTD) of Denver always keeps safety as a first priority. With the summer construction season swinging into high gear, RTD has outlined its policy and procedures to ensure everyone's safety.

As the owner and eventual operator of the I-225 Rail Line, RTD has to make sure the project is designed, built and operated in the safest way possible.

To do that, RTD requires that the contractor adheres to the safety and security certification process and follows up on items identified in a hazard analysis.

RTD ensures system safety expectations are met by tracking the status and verifying progress of the safety and security certification program, reviewing the hazard analysis for identified mitigations and performing audits and field verification for items related to system safety and security. Safety concerns are identified and communicated to the project team so that potential or existing hazards can be adequately addressed to ensure the safest possible product.

The contractor is required to comply with the RTD system safety and security design criteria, as well as Federal Transportation Administration and rail industry standard guidelines for the same.

In addition to system safety and security in design, construction and integrated testing for a project, the I-225 Rail Line construction safety manager provides oversight of the contractor’s construction safety requirements. That includes worker safety during construction, job site inspections, construction safety audits, project accident/incident reviews, project thefts and attending project safety meetings.
