The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) have released a Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (DSEIS) for the Regional Connector Transit Corridor Project, an underground light-rail system under construction that will connect the existing LACMTA Gold, Blue and Expo lines in downtown Los Angeles.

The DSEIS has been prepared solely to provide additional detail on tunneling methods not selected along the Flower Street portion of the project between 4th Street and the 7th Street/Metro Center Station. The tunneling methods discussed in the DSEIS include Open Face Shield and Sequential Excavation Method.

The Regional Connector Project completes a 1.9-mile segment between the Blue and Expo Lines and the Gold Line by providing a direct connection with three new stations planned for 1st Street/Central Avenue, 2nd Street/Broadway and 2nd Place/Hope Street in downtown Los Angeles.

The Regional Connector Project, expected to be completed in 2020, is estimated to attract nearly 17,000 new daily riders and provide access to more than 88,000 passengers saving commuters up to 20 minutes off their daily commutes.
