Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) has started installing the guideway for the rail system, placing the 50-ton segments on top of the columns in West Oahu, Hawaii.

Each span-the portion of the guideway between one column and the next is made up of approximately 12 segments. The segments are produced at the 35-acre casting yard in Kalaeloa. No two segments are identical. Each segment must be configured specifically for the precise angle and alignment where it will be placed. It will take about 5,200 segments to for the first 10-miles of the alignment.

Workers will be installing spans in both directions, with work beginning near Kualakai Parkway, also known as North-South Road. Beginning this summer, column construction will proceed down Farrington Highway through Waipahu. The guideway will cross over Ft. Weaver Road in the near future, with span placement following column installation down the median of the roadway.
