HNTB has named Joseph Pizzurro, PE, as its new transit and rail practice leader.

The newly created position will serve the New York and New Jersey metropolitan area, officials said. Pizzurro will be based in the firm’s Empire State Building office, and his role will entail growing HNTB’s transit and rail operations in the region.

“A proven leader, Joe has earned the trust of transit agencies throughout New York and New Jersey, and he is recognized for his ability to design and implement creative solutions to highly complex transit and rail challenges,” said Phil Brake, PE, HNTB’s Northeast Division president.

As an HNTB senior vice president with more than 22 years of industry experience, the company notes that Pizzurro most recently served as sales officer for HNTB’s Northeast Division, reaching record sales last year.

Since he joined HNTB in 2011, the company said Pizzurro has held many increasingly key roles including New York sales officer, director of rail and senior project manager for the rail department.

Pizzurro is an alumnus of the State University of New York, Buffalo with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering.

He is also a member of the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association, the Metropolitan Railway Club and the American Society of Civil Engineers. Pizzurro is a professional engineer in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
