Houston METRO launches safety initiative

Houston METRO is continuing its efforts to educate the community about safety along the light-rail lines.

As part of that initiative, METRO Board members, Diann Lewter and Jim Robinson, President and Chief Executive Officer Tom Lambert and members of METRO’s Safety Team gathered along the Purple Line near the University of Houston to share ongoing initiatives.

“We’ve been concerned with the uptick in accidents and we’re doing everything possible, including looking at enforcement and engineering, to make our system safe,” said Robinson.

“Our rail safety education began even before rail construction started,” said Lewter. “We want to remind everyone to do what we learned as children; stop, look and listen. Trains don’t swerve and can’t stop quickly.”

“Safety is our number one priority at METRO and we never stop looking at ways we can improve our overall safety for people who use our system and the public as a whole,” said Lambert. “So, we want to make sure we aggressively and continuously communicate our message through education.”
