Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (Houston METRO) has named Tom Lambert president and chief executive officer. Lambert has been acting in the role on an interim basis for more than a year.

“I’m very happy to report we have a new and permanent CEO and his name is Tom Lambert,” said Houston METRO Board Chairman Gilbert Garcia. “Sometimes the right person for the job is right in front of you and that is what we found.”

Lambert’s term of service will run through April 1, 2016. His career in transportation started in 1979 when he joined Houston METRO. During his tenure, he has served as police chief and later the agency’s chief administrative officer before being asked to temporarily take charge of the agency starting in January 2013.

“This is an honor. I’m excited to work with the board and staff to provide transit options for this community” said Lambert.
