A total of five consortia and companies have qualified to bid on two contracts from CDPQ Infra, subsidiary of Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, to build part of a proposed CA$5.5-billion (US$4.06-billion) light-rail project in Montreal.

CDPQ Infra said the qualified companies and consortia will have the opportunity to participate in the international call for proposals process for two major contracts that are part of the Réseau électrique métropolitain project.

Groupe NouvLR and Kiewit-Eurovia, a partnership, qualified to bid on the infrastructure engineering, procurement and construction contract (EPC Contract).

Alliance Montréal Mobilité, Bombardier Transportation Canada Inc. and Groupe des Partenaires pour la Mobilité des Montréalais qualified to bid for the provision of rolling stock, systems and operation and maintenance services (RSSOM Contract).

CDPQ Infra says the calls for proposals are expected to be launched the week of Nov. 14, 2016. Qualified companies and consortia will then have a period of approximately six months to submit a proposal. In accordance with the announced schedule, construction is expected to start in spring 2017 and the first trains are expected to be in operation at the end of 2020.

CDPQ Infra says it conducted a rigorous, transparent and fair analysis of all qualification applications, in accordance with global best practices.
