More Sandy relief funds for NJ Transit, PATH

The Department of Transportation has awarded a combined $235 million in federal grants to repair damage from Superstorm Sandy inflicted on New Jersey Transit and Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) rail systems in late October 2012.
New Jersey’s two U.S. Senators, Robert Menendez and Cory Booker (both Democrats), announced the DOT funding on Wednesday, May 28, 2014.
PATH, the rapid transit rail system linking New York City and New Jersey points, will be given $167 million, while NJ Transit, heavily criticized after the storm for its inadequately preparing for potential property damage, will receive $66.8 million.
“These grants help pay to rebuild our state’s vital public transit network without overburdening commuters,” Menendez said in a statement.
