The National Railroad Construction & Maintenance Association honored individuals and companies by awarding the Railroad Construction Project of the Year, Field Employee of the Year and inducting the inaugural class of the association's Hall of Fame.

Those honored were presented with awards on Saturday, January 7, at the 2012 NRC Conference and Exhibition held at the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego, Calif.

The two men inducted posthumously into the Hall of Fame were Bill Herzog, founder and owner of Herzog Contracting Corp., and Thomas Philip Stout, executive at Atlas Railroad Construction and Marta Track Constructors. NRC called Herzog a fearless businessman and the definition of probity, which means integrity and uprightness. The NRC said Stout was inducted because he was an industry visionary, entrepreneur and innovator.

The Railroad Construction Project of the Year was awarded to Stacy & Witbeck/Kiewit Infrastructure West for the Utah Transit Authority West Valley TRAX Light Rail. NRC said the scope of this project, the contractors’ ability to partner and manage workflow between a multitude of parties and innovative problem solving all made this entry stand out.

Anthony “Tony” MacIsaac was awarded the Field Employee of the Year. MacIsaac is general superintendent and track supervisor at Railroad Construction Company, Inc. NRC said he was given the honor because he exhibits a strong dedication to safety and customer service, while focusing on project management.

More on the NRC conference will appear in the March and May issues of Railway Track & Structures.
