Beginning December 28, F Line riders will have access to the newly refurbished Manhattan-bound platform at the Avenue X station in Brooklyn. The six-month station renewal project is part of a major $80.5-million capital project, awarded to Kiska Construction Inc. that will completely renew nine stations along the Culver F Line.

The $9.2-million dollars in improvements at Avenue X included the replacement of staircases, doors, windows, concrete precast platform panels, as well as Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements consisting of the installation of a new platform edge and tactile warning strips. The station was painted and outfitted with new windscreen panels, light fixtures, railings and a new mezzanine passageway and floor.

Also on December 28, Metropolitan Transportation Authority New York City Transit closed the Brooklyn-bound platforms at 111 St-Greenwood Ave. and 80 St-Hudson St. as part of an ongoing $39-million renewal project at five stations along the Liberty Avenue Line: 80 St-Hudson St., 88 St-Boyd Ave., Rockaway Blvd., 104 St-Oxford Ave. and 111 St-Greenwood Ave.

Station renewal work at 111 St-Greenwood Ave. and 80 St-Hudson St. will consist of repairs or replacement of mezzanine to platform stairs, mezzanine floors, doors, windows, interior and exterior walls and the installation of new platform edges and ADA tactile warning strips. Each station will be painted and canopies, windscreen panels and railings will be replaced. Customers will also benefit from new lighting in the mezzanines and other amenities, including new artwork.

These improvements will create significantly better conditions for customers who use these stations, which were originally opened in the early 1900’s. The construction contracts were awarded in December 2013 as a joint venture to Forte Construction Corp. and Emis Construction Group.
