An army of workers was deployed along the 8.7 mile-long segment of the subway linking Midtown, Harlem, Washington Heights, Inwood and the Bronx. Crews generated 24,150 pounds of scrap debris in 6,646 bags and removed 98,150 pounds of debris in 9,230 bags; scraped and cleaned 48,735 feet of track and installed 39 new rails, 1,471 track tie plates, 625 friction pads and 134 tie blocks.
They also scraped and cleaned 15,406 feet of track under and around the third rail and corrected 558 defects; repaired 60 leaks; installed or replaced 75 feet of "No Clearance" signs; repaired 190 square feet of damaged concrete and five doors; replaced 332 tunnel light bulbs and cleaned 850 feet of drains, serviced three pump plants and removed 400 gallons of silt.
Joseph Leader, senior vice president for the Department of Subways, said, "Our FASTRACK efforts have been highly successful in repairing and maintaining a subway system that operates around the clock, providing a better work environment for employees and improving train service reliability for our customers."
Workers profiled and surveyed 260 control cables and serviced four subway control terminal boxes; replaced multiple light bulbs and lighting fixtures, removed graffiti and other station work.
As for signals and communications, crews serviced 27 switches, 21 signals and other signal equipment; tested 11 signals and 31 switches, as well as other components; performed routine rail/switch maintenance at 24 locations and performed 61 monthly and 26 annual inspections.
The next FASTRACK overnight closure will take place June 2 - 6 on the N, Q and R Broadway line in Manhattan.
