Optimizing capital planning, asset management topic of Railway Age/RT&S free webinar

It is no secret that rail infrastructure is expensive to maintain and, for North American transit agencies, many of which are working with strained budgets, every dollar spent on a maintenance program must stretch as far as it can go.

 

In the spirit of "working smarter, not harder," Railway Age and Railway Track & Structures (RT&S) will be presenting a free webinar on July 9, "Achieving Optimized Capital Planning and Asset Reliability." This webinar will tap the experience and knowledge of two remarkable transit agencies: Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), which former National Transportation Safety Board Chair Deborah Hersman recently called "first among its peers" and Utah Transit Authority (UTA), named the American Public Transportation Association's Outstanding Public Transportation System of 2014.

WMATA and UTA will provide a collective learning experience of applying modern techniques and technologies to address typical State of Good Repair (SGR) challenges in this 60-minute webinar, which is sponsored by Bentley Systems and moderated by RT&S Editor Mischa Wanek-Libman.

Daniel Hofer and Kyle Stockley, transit asset administrators for UTA, will begin the discussion by reviewing the challenges the agency faces as a mid-size transit tackling the large scale task of achieving and maintaining an SGR system.

Andy Off, P.E., PMP, assistant chief engineer (civil, track, right of way), WMATA and Kevin Moore, president, The Net Consulting Group, Inc., will explore why track analysis and maintenance and corridor planning is as much about managing and sharing data as it is about managing infrastructure assets.

All presenters will highlight important take-away points for webinar attendees who are looking at developing or deploying their own asset management and/or railway analysis and maintenance system.
