Oregon's TriMet said construction activities surrounding the Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail Transit Project are now "substantially complete" with some intermittent work taking place this summer.

The centerpiece of the project, Tilikum Crossing, Bridge of the People, is a 1,720-foot shared use bridge over the Willamette River. The bridge was designed to carry light-rail trains, buses, cyclists, pedestrians and future streetcar service.

Testing of trains and training of TriMet bus operators is underway along those segments of the line where both trains and buses will share a right-of-way.

The 7.3-mile project will connect Portland State University, inner Southeast Portland, Milwaukie and north Clackamas County when it opens in September 2015.
