"We're building a project that will improve transit and travel times in this growing corridor," said TriMet General Manager Neil McFarlane. "The construction crews are doing a terrific job, with the project on time and on budget and we look forward to opening the line and providing alternatives to driving."
It is expected to increase work commutes from the corridor to downtown Portland by 20 percent, reduce vehicle trips each weekday by more than 9,100 (or 60,000 vehicle miles), improve travel time between Milwaukie and the South Waterfront by 58 percent and Milwaukie and Portland State University by 29 percent.
The project is the region's sixth MAX construction project to be built and extends from the terminus of the MAX Green and Yellow lines at PSU in Downtown Portland to South Waterfront, SE Portland, Milwaukie and North Clackamas County and will have 10 stations. The line is expected to open Sept. 12, 2015.
