Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority's (SCVTA) Montague Light Rail Station in Milpitas has reopened after being closed for five months to allow for modifications to the station for a new pedestrian bridge that will provide a convenient and direct connection between the future Milpitas Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) Station and the Montague Light Rail Station.

The station’s main stairs were reconstructed to make way for a new escalator and a new pedestrian overcrossing that will connect SCVTA light rail to future BART service. The emergency exit stairs at the station were also reconstructed to accommodate an anticipated increase in riders transferring from SCVTA’s BART Berryessa Extension when it opens in fall 2017.

Construction of SCVTA’s BART Silicon Valley Berryessa Extension project has reached beyond the half way mark. The Milpitas BART Station is the center of the city’s Transit Area Specific Plan and will be the BART system’s gateway to Silicon Valley, serving as a key local and regional connection for the high-tech, job-rich northwestern areas of Santa Clara County.
