On August 20, the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (SCVTA) is expected to receive the sixth and final allocation from the state of California's Traffic Congestion Relief Program (TCRP) for SCVTA's Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) Silicon Valley project.

The $39 million will bring the total amount of TCRP funding received for Silicon Valley to $649 million. With this latest installment, the California Transportation Commission (CTC) will have allocated a total of $768 million.

“The CTC has provided more than $700 million toward the BART extension to Silicon Valley and will consider an additional allocation of $39 million at our August 20 Hearing,” said CTC Chair Carl Guardino. “The BART extension will ease traffic congestion, benefit California’s economy and remove harmful greenhouse gas emissions from our atmosphere – three great reasons for this significant investment from our state.”

SCVTA’s BART Silicon Valley was identified as one of 53 projects statewide eligible to receive TCRP funds in 2000, when legislation passed creating the program. The funds to date have generally been applied to the environmental, design and construction activities that are either complete or underway, including trench and bridge construction to separate the BART system from major roadways and construction of stations. The allocation anticipated on August 20 will help fund construction of the Milpitas and Berryessa BART station campuses and towards design and construction of the parking structures at the two stations.
