Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (SCVTA) is utilizing drones to help build its Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) Silicon Valley Berryessa.

SCVTA says the drones help monitor construction and improve productivity across the project’s large geographic area.

SCVTA’s contractor hired a Bay Area startup company to fly unmanned aerial vehicles over the entire project footprint. The drones take high-resolution photographs of the project and provide real-time data to the project team.
SCVTA says the progress photos give the contractor an overall view of the project that allows it to avoid potential issues.

Because the drones fly over the project on a regular basis, the contractor is able to track the use of materials and monitor construction progress without leaving the office.

SCVTA says the use of drone technology improves jobsite safety, product quality, budget and schedule management, resulting in more efficient construction practices.
