The Sugar House streetcar is a two-mile modern streetcar line that will run from the 2100 South TRAX Station to the Sugar House commercial district near Highland Drive at approximately 2235 South in Salt Lake City.
The project was awarded $26 million by the U.S. Department of Transportation in October. 2010, with a grant from the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery II program. The remainder of the funding for the $55.5-million project was provided by the City of South Salt Lake, Salt Lake City and the Utah Transit Authority.
The line will include seven stations located at Central Pointe TRAX, State Street, 300 East, 500 East, 700 East, 900 East and McClelland Street (1045 East). Ridership is projected at 3,000 average weekday boardings. Upon completion, it will connect to more than 130 miles of rail service across the Wasatch Front.
