On Tuesday, August 21, 2012, U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer toured the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority's Bay Area Rapid Transit Silicon Valley Berryessa Extension Project, the largest transportation infrastructure project in Santa Clara County, Calif. Senator Boxer, along with other advocates and supporters in Washington, helped secure a $900 million federal grant for the Berryessa Extension Project earlier this year.

“We are looking forward to Senator Boxer’s visit, as she will see firsthand the many jobs created and the progress made since the project broke ground in April thanks to her unwavering support,” said VTA General Manager Michael Burns.

The Senator’s visit took place at the future Berryessa BART Station, located between Berryessa and Mabury roads in San Jose. Officials from BART, VTA, the City of San Jose, the Silicon Valley Leadership Group and local labor leaders also were in attendance.

The cost of the Berryessa Extension Project is approximately $2.3 billion, which includes annual allocations of the $900 million federal grant ranging from $59-150 million over the next seven years, $251 million in state funding and $1.179 billion from Measure A sales tax.
