The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) began the first phase of construction for the Arrott Transportation Center station on January 11, 2016. The project budget has been set at $38.5 million and construction is expected to last through winter 2018.

Customer enhancements for this project include Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant access with the installation of three elevators. One accessible elevator will connect the street and platform level and two accessible elevators will connect the platform level to the East Station overpass. Other accessible features include new curb ramps, sidewalk repaving and ADA-compliant signage.

Major station improvements include new platforms with tactile edging, repair/replacement of stairways, handrails, new metal wall panels, tile wall finishes and canopy roof replacement. Safety and security enhancements include lighting, power and communication system upgrades.
