SMART board names contractor for phase 1 of project

Sonoma Marin Area Rapid Transit in Southern California has selected Stacy and Witbeck/Herzog to build Phase 1 of the train's backbone between Santa Rosa and San Rafael, Calif.

“We have successfully negotiated a contract with Stacy and Witbeck/Herzog, A Joint Venture, that allows us to extend the construction of SMART’s backbone to North Santa Rosa where it will serve a large number of residents and a regional shopping center, Coddington Mall,” said SMART Chairperson and Sonoma County Supervisor Valerie Brown.

The negotiations include 37 miles of track, repair, rehabilitation or replacement of 20 bridges, reconstruction of numerous crossings and station platforms.

The joint venture is between Stacey and Witbeck, Inc., and Herzog Contracting Corp.
