The TriMet Board of Directors has named Shelley Devine as its new interim general manager.

The TriMet Board of Directors has named Shelley Devine, the transit agency's current general counsel, as its new interim general manager.

General Manager Neil McFarlane’s tenure came to an end Feb. 21, the agency said.

After serving as general manager for more than seven years and about 27 total years with TriMet, McFarlane announced his retirement in October 2017.

Devine will lead the agency temporarily while the board finalizes its decision for a permanent general manager. The agency said both TriMet and the board have done community outreach since November during the general manager search.

TriMet Chief Operating Officer Doug Kelsey has been tapped by the board as the finalist for the position at its Jan. 24 meeting. The agency said Kelsey and board members have met on multiple occasions with community stakeholders to discuss TriMet’s goals.

The board is set to make a decision at its Feb. 28 meeting regarding whether Kelsey will receive an offer to serve as general manager or if they will continue the search.

Interim General Manager Devine joined TriMet in March 2008 as senior deputy general counsel, the agency said. She was named general counsel in March 2014 and oversees TriMet’s Legal Services Division. Devine has also served as advisor to the general manager and the board.
